On 28.06.2025, the Mykola Haievoi Center, in cooperation with the Slavic Studies Department at the University of Konstanz, hosted an evening to mark the 101st birthday of Ukrainian-born sculptor Vadim Sidur. The Slavicist Dr. Renata von Maydell moderated the event; the Berlin acting duo Antonia Braun and Andreas Hanuschik read texts by and about Sidur. The reading performance was framed by two violin concerts by violinist Doris Orsan, who accompanied photographs and film footage of Sidur and his works live with Bach. The event was also spontaneously enriched by the Chairman of the Board of the Gedenkzellen Altes Rathaus Lüdenscheid e.V., Christian Bley, who had traveled from the Sauerland and organized an art exhibition with original works by Sidur in 2022. He showed the audience film clips of Sidur in conversation and shared his personal memories of the sculptor. The event ended with a discussion and Q&A session with the audience.
After getting to know war and peace, I gradually came to the not at all new realization that the greatest evil on this earth is the use of violence.
